BetBlocker rolls out new calendaring feature for blocking

BetBlocker, the responsible gambling app funded and developed by alternative dispute mediation service ThePogg.com, has launched a new feature designed to make it easier for people block themselves from online gambling.

Previously, BetBlocker’s software relied exclusively on blocking for a fixed length of time, with users able to select certain periods of time to prevent them from accessing online gambling activities.

However, the new calendaring feature enables app users to be more precise in selecting certain days as to when they can access online gambling.

By applying blocks to a calendar, users can designate specific days to stop them from gambling online, with the function simultaneously blocking all access to igaming websites.

This, BetBlocker said, would allow players to block themselves from gambling at the weekend, but allow them to do so in the week, or to block out the first few days following their regular payday.

“Responsible gambling is about more than the binary option of do or don’t; it’s about helping ensure that people who enjoy gambling can access this activity in a safe and controlled manner,” BetBlocker trustee Duncan Garvie said

“BetBlocker’s new calendaring feature is a leap forward for blocking softwares, extending the service from a simple on/off to a point where users can now tailor restrictions that suit their specific needs.”

The launch comes on the first day of Safer Gambling Week, an initiative that will run in the UK and Ireland from November 19 to 25.

Earlier this year, The Great Britain Gambling Commission officially recognised BetBlocker as a charity with a focus on helping prevent problem gambling. The app is now listed as one of six charities recognised by the regulator as being a specialist in prevention.

This came after BetBlocker last November was also approved as a charity in the UK.
