Consumer protection is “front of people’s minds” at ICE London

| By Ben Murray-Watson
A number of charities and consumer protection businesses showcased their services at the Consumer Protection Zone at ICE London.

The expanded Consumer Protection Zone (CPZ) has moved to a prominent location near the N4 entrance of ICE.

The Zone (N4-110) has nearly doubled since its introduction in 2018 from eight to 14 exhibitors, hosting leading charities comprising Gordon Moody, GamCare, YGAM, Responsible Gambling Council and Gamstop. Also featured at CPZ are suppliers including Future Anthem, Gamblewise, Mindway AI, Casino Guru, TruNarrative, BeBettor, W2 and Crucial Compliance.

Clarion Gaming has been fundraising for organisations and charities within the CPZ with the help of sponsors including Les Ambassadeurs Group, Bet365, Kindred, GVC, Videoslots, Sky Betting and Gaming and IMG Arena.

Better Change was one of the beneficiaries of a £6,000 donation which was presented on Tuesday afternoon. The social impact organisation partners with operators to help them raise standards through improved compliance and social responsibility strategies. Strategic partnerships manager David Richardson said the donation would go towards improved marketing, enabling the company to spread the message to a greater number of operators.

BeBettor is one of the exhibitors within the CPZ, providing affordability checks which protect both customers and operator’s licences in line which follow the latest UK Gambling Commission guidance.

Harris Hill, BeBettor’s head of gaming said the CPZ’s new location within ICE reflected how safer gambling was now perceived: “at the front of everyone’s minds.”

Strategy manager Sonny Cott added that the company had already met with supplier and key stakeholders on the opening day of ICE London 2022. He added that the issue was high on the agenda as the industry awaited the UK government’s white paper on gambling and new regulations within the US.

The CPZ was opened by Tim Miller, executive director of the Gambling Commission. A seminar programme featured the latest technology and product launches and developments in the quest to deliver safer gambling and regulators from across different jurisdictions gave their views on the effectiveness of the restrictions designed to enable safer gambling.

On Wednesday April 13 2022, the CPZ will play host to a session on raising industry standards through collaboration, investment and research with panellists from the Responsible Gaming Council, Gordon Moody, Casino Guru, Gamcare and Clifton Davies Consultancy Limited.

Consumer Protection Zone Agenda 10:30- 11:15.

The Power of AI and technology vs human interaction and intervention in player protection will be the topic of a fire-side chat featuring representatives Future Anthem, Mindway AI, Crucial Compliance (11:15- 12:00).
