Interwetten names Sportradar’s Beier as new CEO
Interwetten has appointed Dominik Beier, formerly global head of advertising and sponsorship sales at sports rights and data supplier Sportradar, as its new chief executive.
Beier becomes the youngest CEO in the history of Malta-based iGaming operator Interwetten at the age of just 27.
He replaces Werner Becher, who last month announced that he is stepping down from the role after seven years leading the business.
Speaking about his new position at Interwetten, Beier said the operator had grown strongly recent years and he is seeking to build on this work in 2019 and beyond.
“Due to the strong management team, the quality and dedication of the highly qualified and long-time employees and the unique product, I see Interwetten very well prepared to push the enormous growth potential further within the next few years,” he said. “Today's product offering is one of the best in the world – be it the outstanding content, impressive innovations or award-winning customer service. This will inspire millions of customers. Building on this base, we will continue to grow and continue the extremely positive development.”
Beier began his professional career with Austrian online sports news portal LAOLA1 in 2011 before moving on to the Lagardère Sports agency. However, he then returned to LAOLA1 and helped establish its sports marketing and media business in Austria.
He served on the executive board until the company's acquisition by Sportradar in 2016, after which he took on the role of global head of advertising and sponsorship sales.
Wolfgang Fabian, founder and majority shareholder of Interwetten, said the operator was delighted to have been able to appoint its preferred candidate for the role.
“I have been following his career for some time with great excitement and I am convinced of his outstanding qualities,” Fabian said. “He will build on the promising results of recent years and develop a highly successful company with a premium product and high reputation for its extraordinary quality and innovation further, and take important steps towards the strategic reorientation of Interwetten.”
Interwetten is yet to confirm when Beier will begin his new role, but Becher had been expected to stay on to oversee the operator’s launch in the re-regulated Swedish market. Interwetten was last month named as one the first companies to receive a new licence in the country ahead of the relaunch date on January 1, 2019.
