Online gambling operator Betway has secured a new licence to begin offering sports betting and online casino in Portugal.

The country’s Comissão de Jogos do Turismo de Portugal granted the licence to GM Gaming Ltd, Betway’s Malta-based office, permitting the operator to offer gambling via the Betway.pt website.

Consumers in Portugal will have access to a range of sports betting services, as well as online games of chance such as blackjack, roulette and slots.

With its new licence, Betway joins the likes of 888, Betclic, PokerStars and Luckia as brands active in the Portuguese markets.

Betway also holds licences to operate in various other major European markets such as the UK, Italy, Spain, Denmark, Malta and Sweden.

Portugal's online gaming market posted its highest revenue figure in the final quarter of 2019, thanks to the contribution from online betting soaring during the period. Revenue for the three months ended 31 December 2019 amounted to €65.4m, helping full-year GGR grow 41% to €215.2m.
