DraftKings, FanDuel halt college fantasy sports contests in US

DraftKings and FanDuel have opted to stop offering fantasy contests on college sports events in the US as part of an agreement with the country’s National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).

The daily fantasy sports (DFS) operators have been in talks with the NCAA for a number of months now regarding the future of college sports-based contests in the country.

Both brands have now “voluntarily and indefinitely” agreed to stop such contests in an effort to gain the support of the NCAA, which has been openly critical about DFS operators offering college sports competitions.

Welcoming the news, NCAA president Mark Emmert said that the organisation would continue to work with state government across the country to ensure that any new pro-DFS legislation currently under consideration includes a clause regarding college sports contests.

Meanwhile, multinational technology company Yahoo has announced that it will no longer accept credit card payments from its DFS customers.

Although the new restriction has come into effect immediately, Yahoo said that it will still accept deposits from the PayPal online payment service and pledged to consider and look at other alternative forms of payments for its customers.
