New guidelines cover wagers on sports and advertising provisions

The American Gaming Association (AGA) has restructured its Code of Conduct to include sports betting as part of an ongoing effort to “build a more cohesive dialogue on responsible gaming”.

Under the updated code, which has been published during the annual Responsible Gaming Education Week in the US, gambling companies can now find guidelines on sports wagers and ensuring that all casino and sports betting marketing is targeted at an age-appropriate demographic. The code also provides guidelines about content requirements and frequency of marketing promotions.

The AGA was a leading voice in the successful bid to overturn PASPA.

Sara Slane, senior vice-president of public affairs at the AGA, said: “The American Gaming Association and its members are committed to fostering a gaming environment that focuses on education, wellbeing and responsibility.

“As gaming enters a new landscape, our industry is prepared to be a proactive partner in how we approach responsible gaming, highlighted today with our updated Code of Conduct that spells our obligations to our patrons, employees and communities.”

The AGA is currently without a permanent leader after Geoff Freeman in June announced that he was to step down as president and chief executive.

Stacy Papadopoulos, general counsel and senior vice-president of industry services at the AGA, is serving as interim chief executive until a full-time successor is named.

However, Papadopoulos last month told iGamingBusiness.com that she will not be “pursuing the CEO job long-term”.
