HJKC brings in Dr Gabriel Leung to oversee charitable efforts
Leung will succeed Leong Cheung, who currently holds the role, and will report directly to the Jockey Club’s chief executive Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges. Cheung is to leave HJKC once his contract expires on August next year.
An experienced public servant, Leung currently serves as Dean of the University of Hong Kong’s Faculty of Medicine. He was one of four expert advisors to the chief executive and government of the Special Administrative Region during the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
Previously he served in the Hong Kong government, as undersecretary for food and health between 2008 and 2012.
In his new role, Leung will be responsible for the development and implementation of HKJC’s charitable strategies and policies, ensuring the effective and appropriate use, application and distribution of funds to ensure a positive social impact.
He will be tasked with growing the Jockey Club’s charitable efforts, and reshaping them to meet Hong Kong’s changing needs, and strengthening relationships with key stakeholders as its programmes and initiatives are expanded.
