Superbet hires Shaw to lead online operations
Former Paddy Power Betfair executive Adam Shaw has been unveiled as the new managing director of international online operations at Superbet.
Shaw will be responsible for overseeing online development outside the operator’s home market, Romania.
Shaw left his most recent full-time role, as Paddy Power Betfair’s international director, in October. Before then he served as the operator’s head of international commercial operations.
He also previously worked in a variety of positions at Betfair over a three-and-a-half-year period before its merger with Paddy Power.
Shaw will report to Superbet’s chief digital officer, Marcello Magaletti, who joined the operator last autumn.
Shaw’s arrival comes at a pivotal time for Superbet, which carried out a two-month redundancy process in Gibraltar in August just a year after the operator announced plans to double its headcount in the jurisdiction.
The operator also announced last year that it would roll out online and mobile betting services in Poland in 2019, building on a land-based presence in the country.
Several operators are targeting Poland, with Regulus Partners having said last week that betting turnover in the country attributable to domestically-licensed operators grew by 55% year-on-year to PLZ5.1bn (£1bn/€1.2bn/$1.4bn) in 2018.
Poland began blacklisting unlicensed gambling companies in July 2017 as part of a new legal structure in the country. The legislation also introduced a licensing structure and a 12% turnover tax on companies operating in Poland.
Regulus added that operators with a domestic licence in Poland accounted for almost half of the gambling-related revenue generated in the country last year – up from 10% in 2015.
