The Star director steps down as review continues
Her resignation takes effect today (30 June).
Pitkin had held the role of director on The Star board since 2014.
“Sally has made a significant contribution to The Star over a considerable period, said Ben Heap, interim chairman of The Star. “The Board thanks Sally for her contribution and wishes her well in her future endeavours.”
The Star named Heap as interim chair after former chairman John O’Neill left before he was set to testify as part of the New South Wales (NSW) Independent Liquor and Gaming Authority’s (ILGA) review into The Star. O’Neill had been in the position for less than two months.
Before this, former CEO Matt Bekier resigned in direct response to the review, which began in June 2021.
Early May saw the resignations of Greg Hawkins, chief casino officer of New South Wales, Paula Martin, chief legal and risk officer and company secretary, and Harry Theodore, chief casino officer.
Earlier this week – during the final day of hearings – Naomi Sharp, senior council assisting with the Authority’s review, concluded that The Star is not suitable to hold a casino licence in Sydney.
Also this week, Queensland’s government announced a review into The Star’s suitability to have a licence in the state. Today (30 June) the state’s government said that this review would question transactions made through China UnionPay at The Star properites.
