Gaming revenue in Macau rose in February when compared to 2021, as the special administrative region continues to recover from the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, but totals were still a long way from pre-pandemic levels.

Revenue came to MOP7.75bn (£719m/€862.7m/$963.8m), a rise of 20.6% from January and 6.1% compared to February 2021.

However, this was a 69.4% drop from February 2019 pre-pandemic revenue.

This brings the total revenue for the year thus far to MOP14.10bn, a decrease of 8% year-on-year. This was 71.9% less than the same period in 2019.

At the beginning of the month Chan Weng Lin, former CEO of Macau Legend, was accused by Macau authorities of operating a triad organisation.

This followed his detainment in November, where he and 10 others – including former SunCity chairman Alvin Chau – were arrested and accused of operating a cross-boarder gambling syndicate.

Following the arrests, Chan resigned from his positions at Macau Legend.

A number of operators with significant presence in Macau reported financial results in February, including Wynn Resorts, which saw its revenue grow 79.6%.

Galaxy Entertainment reported revenue growth of 53.0% to HK$19.70bn.
