Stanleybet to challenge Lottomatica’s Italian Lotto concession

Stanleybet has announced that it intends to launch a legal challenge against the decision by the Italian Agenzia delle Dogane e dei Monopoli regulatory body to grant a consortium led by IGT subsidiary Lottomatica a concession for the country’s Lotto game.

Earlier this week, IGT revealed that the Lottomatica-led consortium placed a bid of €770 million ($874.6 million) in upfront concession payments and expected the deal, which will run four nine years, to go through before the end of the second quarter this year.

However, Stanleybet has reacted negatively to the decision, stating that it will now launch a legal challenge in the Italian courts.

In a post on its website, Stanleybet said: “They awarded fast as lightning to the outgoing – and immediately re-entering – evergreen mono-provider Lottomatica.

“Italian authorities ignore warning to wait for the upcoming judgment of the Latium Regional Administrative Court expected to rule on Stanley’s challenge seeking the annulment of the tender.

“We will challenge the award in the Italian courts.”
