Smarkets launches in Sweden

Exchange operator Smarkets has launched in Sweden, having received a betting licence from the country’s Gaming Authority (Spelinspelktionen) in April.

The operator will be the second licensed betting exchange in Sweden, following Betfair.

For Smarkets, the launch is the second new market in as many months after rolling out its fixed-odds SBK sportsbook app in Colorado in June, having received a licence two months earlier. The business also has plans to launch in Indiana later this year. 

“We know that customers in Sweden have been eagerly anticipating us going live, so I’m very excited to launch the Smarkets exchange there,” Jason Trost, Smarkets founder and chief executive said.

“I am confident that our market-leading prices and superior product will appeal to Swedish customers. The fact that we own our tech stack is one of the reasons we are able to offer the best pricing in the industry, and I’m really looking forward to growing our user base in Sweden.”

Smarkets’ licence will last until April 2025 and covers the operator’s dot.com site.

In total, 98 operators have become licensed since Sweden opened up its oline gambling market at the start of 2019.

As well as holding licences in Sweden and Colorado, Smarkets has also been certified by the British Gambling Commission and the Malta Gaming Authority.
