Lottoland commits to Gibraltar after securing Malta licence
Lottery betting operator Lottoland has reiterated its commitment to Gibraltar, its current base of operations, despite successfully applying for two Malta licences.
Lottoland has been awarded two Type 1 gaming services licences for its Lottoland Europe Ltd subsidiary by the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA). These licences cover the provision of both B2B and B2C services, and list the company as having an office in the town of Birkirkara, located in the centre of the island.
This has prompted speculation that it could make the island is main base, especially in the face of increasing uncertainty over the UK's departure from the European Union.
However, when contacted by iGamingBusiness.com, Lottoland declined to comment on its Malta licences, and insisted that it remains committed to Gibraltar.
Lottoland CEO Nigel Birrell (pictured) said: “Gibraltar is our home and we have no plans for this to change.”
The MGA is yet to respond to a request to comment from iGamingBusiness.com.
