GentingBet eyes Spanish betting and gaming licences
GentingBet, the sportsbook brand of casino operator Genting Group, has applied for casino and sports betting licences in Spain as part of its ongoing European expansion strategy.
The operator has said it is well-positioned to launch in the country and hopes to go live before the end of the year, subject to approval by the Spanish gambling regulator La Dirección General de Ordenación del Juego (DJOJ).
The move comes after GentingBet migrated its interactive functions to Malta in 2018, with this new facility set to support the planned Spanish launch.
“Gambling is an important part of Spanish culture; the country is of significant size, has one of the highest per capita spend in Europe and has consistently grown during the past 10 years or so,” Jeremy Taylor, managing director of Genting Online, said.
“We believe GentingBet’s wonderful heritage, social responsibility focus, live casino expertise and comprehensive betting and gaming suite will resonate well in Spain – as it will other European markets.”
GentingBet launched in 2013 following the successful roll-out of the first Genting online casino in 2008. The operator already runs a network of more than 40 land-based venues.
Taylor was appointed to lead the Genting Online division in September last year. He was previously group managing director at Swedish igaming operator Betsson.
