Casinos de Monaco’s Pascal Lavagna: No place for cash on the casino floor?

With the adoption of contactless payments accelerated by Covid, cashless gaming is finally taking over in European casinos. It’s a no-brainer, says Pascal Lavagna, finance director of the Casinos de Monaco – from a casino perspective the advantages far outweigh the disadvantages.

That’s not to say it’s all plain sailing. Cashless does pose challenges; it creates some technical issues at the customer onboarding stage, and there is also a risk from hackers, he warns.

Casinos need to get their IT infrastructure ready to address those challenges, although for Pascal the real question isn’t whether to do cashless or not. Instead it’s a case of working out whether to fully embrace it, or accepting that cash still has a role to play.
