August Chinese lottery sales hit highest total in more than a year

Lottery sales in China were up 5.7% year-on-year and 9.9% month-on-month to CNY34.48bn in August, the highest total recorded since July 2021.

The Sports Lottery brought in the majority of sales, at CNY21.81bn, which again was the highest total recorded since July 2021. The Sports Lottery sales figure was up 3.3% year-on-year and 14.7% month-on-month.

Most of this came from betting, which brought in CNY13.74bn, while draw-based games contributed CNY5.78bn. Instant games brought in CNY2.20bn.

On the other hand, revenue from the the Welfare Lottery was CNY12.67bn. While this was up from July, it was below the figures recorded in both May and June, and down 9.6% from August 2021.

Most Welfare Lottery revenue was from draw games, which brought in CNY7.45bn. Sales for both instant win games and keno were CNY2.61bn.
