Star Entertainment Queensland casinos to remain closed as lockdown extended
| By Robert Fletcher
Star Entertainment Group’s two casino properties in Queensland are to remain closed until at least 8 August after the Australian state’s government extended a lockdown order.
Queensland entered a three-day lockdown on 31 July in response to an increase in novel coronavirus (Covid-19) cases across the state.
However, with cases continuing to rise, the state’s government extended this order until 8 August at the earliest.
The extension means both the Star Gold Coast and the Treasury Casino & Hotel Brisbane land-based casino properties will remain closed until lockdown ends.
Star said that it would continue to pay its casino staff during the period of lockdown.
The most recent data published today (3 August) by the Queensland government showed there were 16 new cases of Covid-19 in the state, increasing the number of active cases to 82.
