GambleAware sets out new five-year strategy

GambleAware, the charity previously known as the Responsible Gambling Trust (RGT), has published a new five-year strategy in order to reinforce its commitment to people suffering from gambling-related harm.

The strategy reviews the charity’s goal of minimising the levels of harm and treat those who suffer by funding research, education and treatment services.

GambleAware hopes to increase its funding to £10 million (€11.7 million/$12.5 million) a year by calling on all companies that profit from gambling, including those outside the sector, to contribute to efforts.

The strategy also renews the charity’s commitment to providing research into gambling-related harm, with plans to increase funding for such efforts by 50% by the year 2018.

Kate Lampard, who was appointed chair of GambleAware in June, said: “Our No.1 priority is protecting the vulnerable; the most important thing to us is to be able to provide treatment, preventative education and research to minimise the harm caused by gambling.

“Our new strategy makes clear that we hope to work with the gambling industry but we are prepared, when necessary, to challenge the industry in pursuit of our objectives.”
