Sportradar names Aquila as new global chairman
Sportradar has expanded its global board with the addition of four new members, including Tony Aquila, who has been appointed global chairman.
Marc Walder, Herve Couturier and George Fleet make up the quartet of new appointments and now join Sportradar CEO Carsten Koerl, as well as shareholder representatives from the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board and growth equity firm TCV, on the board.
Aquila (pictured) is the founder, chairman and CEO of Solera Holdings, a global technology company that develops solutions to manage and protect both businesses and consumers in the automotive, mobility, financial and cybersecurity industries.
Walder, a former professional tennis player on the ATP Tour, currently serves as CEO of Swiss media group Ringier, while Fleet is head of advisory at Canaccord Genuity.
Couturier is a non-executive board member at investment management software provider SimCorp SAS and Sabre, which provides various solutions to the travel industry. He was also previously chief technology officer at Amadeus.
Speaking about his new role, Aquila said: “Sportradar has always played a pivotal role in innovating and strengthening the industry as it continues to gain market share in key regions such as the US and secure its leadership position.
“I, along with the board, look forward to working with Carsten to help take the company to the next level and continue its aggressive growth and expansion.”
Confirmation of the four new appointments comes after Sportradar expanded its business last month with the launch of two new ventures.
Sportradar has linked up with big data company DOJO Madness to introduce Bayes Esports Solutions, a joint venture focusing on developing esports data solutions for B2B customers. Bayes Esports Solutions will provide data for betting operators, esports broadcasters and media organisations around the world to cover professional esports competitions.
Sportradar has also launched ‘ad:s’, a new full-service marketing solution for bookmakers. The service incorporates a number of marketing solutions that Sportradar said will help sports betting brands to develop more efficient and effective customer acquisition and retention strategies.
